4) Successful Follow-up Tactics
    “Business Cards That Talk” by Paul Tulenko

Paul Tulenko was recently interviewed by Mary Goulet (wsRadio.com) on the topic of "How to make your business card work for you". During this segment he offered a free copy of his $4.95 mini-book titled "Business Cards That Talk" to listeners who emailed him with a request. I liked what he had to say, and was interested in hearing more... so I sent him an email. 

I received Paul's mini-book by postal mail, along with a short - yet compelling - follow-up letter. First, I have to tell you that I rarely open my mail the same day that I receive it... in fact, there's a growing stack of unopened mail on the far end of my desk. However, I opened this particular package right away as I recognized the name and logo of the sender on the front of the envelope (and Paul had gotten my attention with his expertise on the show!). 

The minute I opened the mini-book, two business cards fell out. I used one to bookmark my favorite section of Paul's mini-book, and shared the other with a friend I met for lunch that day. Paul's business card was a two-sided informative sales tool - I decided right away that I needed to check out his website as soon as I got back to the office... not only because this man obviously knows what he is talking about, but also because I found myself admiring his sales & follow-up technique! 

The next thing I pulled out of the envelope was the follow-up letter - addressed to me personally, and signed (not stamped) by Paul Tulenko. He made several key points in this letter:  

  • Thank you for listening to my segment on wsRadio
  • Tune in again for my upcoming segment
  • Invitation to check out Tulenko.com
    (he gave me reasons why I would want to do that)
  • Invitation to check out his book “Get More Business Right Now
    (listing the benefits of this book)
  • Free subscription to his newsletter
    (including "You may opt out at any time")
     

If you don't learn anything else from Paul Tulenko, his follow-up techniques alone are worth noticing - and implementing in your own business plan. Consider his promotional strategy from start to finish, keeping in mind that every tactic he used was extremely beneficial to his audience, and figure out how YOU can use these same key steps to earn new potential clients/sales/visitors: 

1)    Reach your Target Market with the benefits of your product/service

2)    Offer something of value - your time, your expertise, a sample product

3)    Follow-up with compelling sales tools - business card, letter, email

4)    Guide them (defining the benefits) to specific areas of your website

5)    Continue to follow-up with useful and relative content (newsletter)
